Lights
You know that line in Juno? When she says something like “I’ve never realized how much I like being home unless I’ve been somewhere really different for awhile”?
I really like being home too. I like going out too, don’t get me wrong. But sometimes a night watching movies and hanging out with my parents is really what I need. And I really get that line.
We sat around the TV, and watched movies we’ve seen at least five times, but laughed at the funny parts anyway. My mom made macaroni and cheese and mini hot dogs for dinner.
Later I was reading in my room. My dad came in and asked why I didn’t have my bedside lamp on instead of my ceiling light. It doesn’t work, I told him. It was unplugged, cause really, what is the point of leaving something plugged in if you’re not using it, ya know? But he plugged it back in, and pretended he got electricuted and screamed. I did too. Even though I was totally expecting him to do that. It turns out the bulb was just dead. We replaced it with one of those fancy energy efficient ones. He took the old one out and put it above his head and said “Look, Jess! Bright idea!?!?!”
I laughed hysterically. It wasn’t really that funny. But if he hadn’t done that, I honestly think I would be disappointed.
